Georgeen Elaine Huber Pierre passed from life August 4, 2023, in Gillette, Wyoming.
Born November 26, 1929, in Red Bluff, California to Forest and Arvilla Roberson she was raised in Arbuckle and Colusa, California with her brother Leland and the only father she knew, Lee Roberson, due to her father’s death when she was 11 months old.
Georgeen attended college at Oregon State University followed by Southern Oregon College where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education. In 1951 she started her 49-year teaching career in Coos Bay, Oregon where she taught 3rd grade for 11 years. In Coos Bay, she met her future husband Charlie Huber, and they married in Fallon, Nevada in June 1954.
They had 3 children in Coos Bay: Terri, Ross, and Matt. In 1968 the Huber Family moved to Fallon, Nevada where Georgeen taught 4th grade at West End School full time for 22 years, followed by 16 years as a substitute teacher. Georgeen was honored with the Teacher of the Year Award for the State of Nevada in 1979, followed by the Nevada State Education Community Service Award in 1984.
In Fallon she served 20 years on the Senior Center Coalition Board plus served on the boards of Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Association of University Women, Good Sam’s, CCEA as well as being a member of NEA and NSEA. Georgeen was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church from 1968-2015 where she sang in the choir and was active on boards.
She also attended the First United Methodist Church in Gillette, Wyoming from 2015 until her passing. Moving to Gillette, Wyoming in 2015 at the age of 85 she donated her time to read to school children for several years. Georgeen’s life was dominated by service to others, donating her time and money to a vast multitude of charities as well as her church.
Georgeen’s husband Charlie died in late 1993. Always living life, she met Alphonse Pierre and married again at the age of 69 in 1999. Georgeen and Alphonse had a happy life until his passing in May 2013.
Georgeen loved to camp and travel, taking long family trips every summer often bringing one of her Fallon nephews. Once retired she took each of her 7 grandchildren on school group or individual trips. She took a whirlwind tour of 7 European countries with husband Charlie and son Matt in 1992, visited friends in Thorverton, England and toured England and Scotland,
and cruised to Costa Rica and through the Panama Canal with her daughter Terri. Georgeen criss-crossed the United States several times attending Navy reunions with husband Alphonse Pierre.
Georgeen was predeceased by her parents Forest, Arvilla and Lee Roberson, her brother Leland, her husbands’ Charlie Huber and Alphonse Pierre, and her nephew Daniel Roberson.
Surviving relatives include her children; Terri of Kahului, Hawaii; Ross and Tammy of Gillette, Wyoming; Matt of Eureka Springs, Arkansas and numerous nephews and nieces, 7 grandchildren,16 great grandchildren and many family friends treated as family.
Funeral services will be held at Epworth United Methodist Church in Fallon, Nevada at 10:30 am, Saturday, August 19, 2023. A viewing will be held on Friday August 18, 2023 from 1 to 4 pm at Smith Family Funeral Home 505 Rio Vista Dr. in Fallon. All friends and family are welcome to attend.
