Dorothy Fife Stewart, 87 passed peacefully on November 23, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones.
Dorothy was born August 19, 1936, in Columbus, Ohio to William and Naomi Taylor. Dorothy met her first husband Samuel (Sam) O’ Fife Jr. in Columbus, Ohio. Dorothy and Sam settled in Gainesville, Texas but traveled and lived in various countries and cities throughout the years traveling with Sam’s job in the oil industry.
Dorothy and Sam lived in Venezuela, Nigeria, Angola, Saudi Arabia, and other cities in South America before finally coming back to the U.S.A. and settling in Odessa, Texas where Dorothy raised her four children.
It was in Odessa where Dorothy suffered the passing of her first husband Sam and raised children as a single parent. After her children left the Odessa area, Dorothy moved to Plano, Texas in 1989 and began her successful real estate career. Dorothy discovered she loved selling real estate and was remarkably successful selling homes in the North Dallas and Plano area.
After living in 6 different countries and moving 26 times in 19 years she knew about relocation and helped families make decisions in finding their new home. Dorothy was a top seller often with firms such as Ebby Halliday, Coldwell Banker, and REMAX often given awards as “Top Producer” and “Super Star Agent”.
Dorothy then met he second husband, Alfred (Al) J. Stewart of Nevada. After retiring from real estate, Dorothy moved to the Lake Tahoe area and settled in Gardnerville, Nevada with Al. She loved living in Nevada and often said “I was my happiest living in Nevada”. She enjoyed her volunteer work with the Shriners and Masonic Lodge as her husband Al was a Mason.
Upon Al’s death Dorothy returned to the Dallas area to be closer to family. Dorothy had such a passion for gardening, playing bridge, listening to music, being a dog mom and just being around people. Dorothy had such an effervescent personality that everyone who met her loved her instantly. She was full of wit and enjoyed life.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Samuel Fife, and Alfred Stewart, her parents and siblings, Helen Sulzer, Jim Taylor, Chuck Taylor, and Ruth Seastrand.
She is survived by her children; Stephen Fife of Orlando, Florida; Karen Barnhill of Dallas Texas, Leslie Kittrell of Orlando, Florida; William (Bill) Fife of Dallas Texas; grandchildren Christopher Minyen (Cecilia); Chase Carroll; great grandchildren, Gavin, Sydney; stepson Sam O’ Fife III (Connie); numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.
The family wishes to express thanks and gratitude to all caregivers at Arbor Hills Memory Care Community and Centric Hospice for giving such wonderful compassionate care to Dorothy and to all family and friends that she loved so dearly who supported and loved her throughout her life’s journey.
A private memorial service with family will be planned in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that if you have a loved one or know someone who is suffering from Dementia or Alzheimer’s that you visit with them often and share a special memory you have of them and continue to love them and hug them through their journey.
Memorials may be made to the Dementia Society of America, Alzheimer’s Association, or the Shriners Hospital for children.
