Bonnie Kay Dietrich

July 21, 1949 - October 13,2022

Bonnie was born at Bethel Hospital in Colorado Springs to Mary and Frank Dietrich. Bonnie lived on a dairy farm in Elbert Colorado until the family moved to the Black Forest near Colorado Springs. Bonnie and her family moved to Carson City, Nevada in September 1957. Bonnie attended Fremont elementary, Carson Elementary, Carson Junior High and graduated from Carson High School on June 4, 1967.

Bonnie was active in High School choir, band, Civil Air Patrol (squad leader and sergeant), Future Teachers of America, Future Homemakers of America (president and outstanding
Homemaker for the year 1967.

Bonnie graduated from Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa Idaho in 1972.She was the Assistant Director of Women’s Intramurals, champion in shuffleboard, badminton golf and archery (winning doubles 2 times and singles 4 times).

Bonnie returned to Carson and began work at the Carson Recreation Dept. as the Assistant Recreation Director taught Special Education classes at Fritsch Elementary, James Thom School, OARC and Saint Theresa Catholic School.

Bonnie helped start Carson Special Olympics, was Area Coordinator for Douglas, Story and Carson Counties also setting up programs in Elko and Winnemucca as a member of State staff for Olympics Bonnie attended International Games in Michigan, Brockport, New York, Baton Rouge Louisiana, and South Bend Indiana (Notre Dame).

Bonnie began work for the Carson City School District in 1976. Physical Ed. teacher she worked at Carson Junior High (now Carson Middle School) and later taught Special Ed. to Elementary and High School Students. While still working for the District Bonnie went back to the Recreation Department and started the Movers and Doers Program for people with disabilities. “I always wanted to make Carson City a better place for people with disabilities
to live” Bonnie has made a difference and has left her footprint in the lives of many.

Bonnie leaves her nieces Noelle Williams, Loni Davis, Tanya Kunze, Simone Amadee and her nephew Jeff Kunze. Bonnie had a special place for all her cousins living in Filer, Idaho Kathy, Dan and Sweetums will miss Bonnie forever.

A Celebration of Bonnie’s life will be on April 15th at the Carson City Community Center Gym. It begins at 2:30(sign in at the East door (facing Mills Park), Bonnie’s request was for everyone to wear P.E. clothes, sweats and tennis shoes or your favorite team shirt
