A couple out walking their dog Saturday afternoon off Carson River Road came upon a partially decomposed body in a field just west of Silver Saddle Ranch.
Carson City Sheriff's Capt. Ken Sandage said as a precaution the Sheriff's Office is treating the scene as a homicide.
"We're securing the scene, collecting the evidence and processing it as we would treat a suspicious or homicide scene," said Sandage.
The body appears to have been in the area for at least a week.
Based on clothing and hair, the remains are likely female, said Sandage, but until an autopsy is conducted Monday, its difficult to determine sex because of the body's condition.
No identification was found at the scene.
