Genoa, Nev. — Planning commissioners are scheduled to review the county’s new vacation home rental ordinance. They are meeting in person 1 p.m. today at the Douglas County Courthouse in Minden. Vacation rentals are prohibited in East Fork Township, which is all of Douglas County outside of Lake Tahoe.

The Gansbergs are seeking a permit to conduct a special occasion home on their family ranch on Waterloo Lane at today’s planning commission meeting. Under the permit they would be able to conduct weddings, receptions, business and corporate events. The Gansbergs have owned the property since 1903.

With just over a month to go, Carson Valley Days buttons are on sale now by the Lions Club. Buttons are $2 each or two for $3 at Raley’s, Nevada State Bank, JT Basque Bar & Dining Room, Accolades Trophies and Battle Born Wines, or you can call Ron Santi at 775-315-2354. The Carson Valley Days Parade is June 12.

Main Street Gardnerville will likely be looking for a new executive director after the Genoans voted to offer the town manager’s job to Matt Bruback. The town board said Bruback’s event experience cinched it for them. With last year’s Candy Dance canceled by the coronavirus, the town’s main source of revenue is going to be more important that ever this year.

Bruback’s hiring is not a done deal, yet. The town still has to make a formal offer, and then the county will conduct a background check, so it will be around a month before he’s able to climb into the saddle.

A red flag warning for critical fire danger has been issued for the West Slope of the Sierra through 6 p.m. tonight. While the other side of the mountains from us, that’s where some of our smoke comes from in fire season.

Today’s weather will be pretty much cut and paste of Monday’s except a smidge warmer. Expect sunny skies with a high temperature of 79 degrees. The 5-10 mph breeze will shift from east to north this afternoon.
