The annual Peace Officer's Memorial Run relay arrived at Jack Wright Pass east of Topaz Ranch Estates at 7 a.m. Wednesday and is making its way up Highway 395. Members of the Douglas Sheriff's Special Weapons and Tactics team, K-9 deputies and the MRAP are expected to carry the baton through downtown. Douglas County Sheriff's Capt. Rick Koontz Jr. said Douglas agencies including the district attorney's office, the Sheriff's Office, Juvenile Probation, the Washoe Tribe and other agencies are participating in the relay, which started in Las Vegas a week ago. Runners are carrying a baton with seven names of law enforcement officers who were lost in the line of duty. Carson City takes over the baton in northern Douglas County this afternoon and will deliver it to the Peace Officer's Memorial on the capitol grounds. Ceremonies inducting the fallen seven will be conducted at the memorial on Thursday. Motorists are advised watch out for runners, who will be along the northbound lanes of Highway 395 for much of today.
