An artist’s reception is 5-7 p.m. Friday as part of the Carson Valley Photo Club’s Birds, Buckaroos and Beauty show at Whit Hall on the River Fork Ranch in Genoa this weekend.

The photo club’s show is open 3-7 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Work by local photographers will be on sale at the show.

Photographers looking for some buckaroos won’t have far to mosey up Genoa Lane on Saturday to see some in the flesh.

The second invitational horse parade is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday featuring Ranch 1 owners Lisa Lekumberry, Sheri Walters, and Terri Billman of Genoa, Miss Rodeo Nevada, Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverley and his wife Sarah, and the National Pony Express, Nevada Division.

The photo show coincides with Genoa’s Western Heritage Days, which features its own fine art show, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Masonic Hall, the Genoa Gallery, and the lawn in front of Mormon Station Historic State Park.

While the big concerts and the progressive dinner are sold out, there will be plenty of free performances on Saturday with the Sierra Sweethearts, Jon & Betsy Elliott, Jakota Wass Band, Ten Dollar Pony, Those Windburn Brothers, Lost Reverends of the High Sierra, Carson Chandler, and Rough Edges.

Trinity Seely’s concert is sold out, but fans can hear her perform on Sunday at a nondenominational services led by Reverend Patrick Jolly starting at 9 a.m. in the Town Hall.

Genoa Western Heritage Days is organized by Friends of Genoa and sponsored by Daniel’s Restaurant, Ranch One, Heritage Bank, Carson Tahoe Health System, Carson Valley Health, Visit Carson Valley, Gillmor Coons Real Estate, Dorothy Gardner, Betsy Cooksey, Sherry Millichap, Jim and Nancy Turner, Lucette and Steve Simon, and many individual Heritage Sponsors. 1862 David Walley’s Hot Springs & Resort provides rooms for Town Hall concert performers.

The photo show at the River Fork Ranch is a big spring event for the Carson Valley Photo Club.

“We will have a busy season ahead, so join for fun and frolic,” said spokeswoman Nancy Hulsey.

At the March meeting, presenter Mike Miller of Prism talked about how to upload photos in proper resolutions. Miller also judged the photo contest.

Kim Steed won first place with “Brown Eyed Girl.” Second Place honors were awarded to Wendy Whyman and her photo entitled “Good Morning.” Third place was awarded to Kim Steed and her eagle photo she calls “Coming in Hot.”

Photo Club meets the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville. The next meeting will be May 14.
