Virginia Lee


Broersma


1936-2006


A memorial service for Virginia Lee Broersma, 70, a 38-year Minden resident, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Hilltop Community Church.


Mrs. Broersma died Aug. 2, 2006, in Carson City.


She was born April 25, 1936, in San Jose, Calif., to John and Myrtle Stephens.


She married William Broersma on Jan. 14, 1983, in Reno.


Before moving to Minden, Mrs. Broersma lived in San Jose.


She retired from the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles.


She belonged to the Red Hat Hotties of Minden and the Ladies Sewing/Coffee Club.


She was preceded in death by her brother, Edgar Stephens and daughter Lyn Janese Walkama.


Among her survivors are her husband; daughters LeeAnn Rasner and Dana Westre; son, Brian Walkama; stepsons Jim, Bill, Mike and Eric Broersma; stepdaughter, Missy Page; 23 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two nephews.


Memorial donations may be made to the Ron Wood Family Resource Center or the Do Drop Inn.

Marian Olive Davies


1919-2006


Marian Olive Davies, 87, a seven-year Gardnerville resident, died Aug. 11, 2006, in Carson City.


Mrs. Davies was born May 9, 1919 in South Wales, United Kingdom, to Albert Farmer and Hannah Gallent. She married David John Davies in London in 1952.


Before moving to Gardnerville, Mrs. Davies lived at Long Beach, Calif.


A nurse and a machine shop operator and inspector, she was a member of the Church of England.


She was preceded in death by her husband; by son Geoffrey David Davies; and by brothers Arthur and Cedric Farmer.


Among her survivors are her son, Anthony John Davies of Gardnerville; sisters Madge Jones of South Wales, United Kingdom and Flora Murray of England; brothers Colin Farmer of Perth, Australia and Mostyn Farmer of South Wales, United Kingdom; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.


Cremation will take place at FitzHenry's Crematory in Carson City.

Stanley Edward


Kurczodyna


1922-2006


A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday for Stanley Edward Kurczodyna, 83, who died at his Gardnerville home Aug. 8, 2006. The service is at the Northern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.


Mr. Kurczodyna was born Nov. 22, 1922, in Evanston, Ill. to Louis and Franciska Kurczodyna. Raised in Evanston, he moved to Gardnerville 67 years ago. He was in the U.S. Navy 1944-1945 and was a life member and trustee of VFW Post 8071 Virginia City. He was a life member of the Military Order of the Cootie and a service officer for the VFW for many years.


He is survived by a son, Stanley E. Kurczodyna of Minden and numerous children and grandchildren.


Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Douglas County Mortuary in Minden with cremation at Walton's Sierra Crematory in Carson City. Inurnment will take place at Northern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.




Ronald A. Olson


1931-2006


A 10 a.m. Friday memorial service for Ronald A. Olson, 75, of Gardnerville, will be at Walton's Douglas County Mortuary, 1478 Fourth Street in Minden. Mr. Olson died Aug. 10, 2006, in Salt Lake City, Utah.


Born July 10, 1931, in Bingham, Utah, to Glen and Rubye Olson, he married Doris Cobb, July 4, 1953, in Berkeley, Calif.


Mr. Olson served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and worked computer operations for Chevron. He attended the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris.


He is survived by son Donald McCloskey and wife Janet of Roseville, Calif.; daughter Dandra Graves of El Sobrante, Calif.; brother Kent and wife Shana of Bluffdale, Utah; sister Gae Griffith of Midville, Utah; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.


A graveside service will follow the memorial service at 1 p.m. at Eastside Memorial Cemetery.


Walton's Douglas County Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.




Esther Robertson


1922-2006


A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Aug. 19 at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville officiated by Rev. Pete Nelson for Esther Robertson, 84, who died Aug. 8, 2006, at her home in Minden.


Mrs. Robertson was born March 23, 1922, in Brown County, S.D. to John and Elizabeth Aho. She graduated high school in Eveleth, Minn., and married Charles Robertson in 1943. A resident of Minden since 1981, she was a homemaker and volunteered at the Douglas County Senior Center for 21 years.


She was preceded in death by her brother Lauri Aho. She is survived by her husband Charles Robertson of Minden, daughter Cindy Maple, granddaughter Jaime Maple, brother Robert Aho and numerous nieces and nephews.


Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville. Cremation will take place at FitzHenry's Crematory in Carson City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 705 S. Wells Ave. #225, Reno, NV 89502 or to Barton's Hospice of the Valley, 1167 Water St. Suite K, Minden, NV 89423.




Steven Mark Turadek


1956-2006


A memorial service for Steven Mark Turadek, 49, a six-year Minden resident, will be at 6 p.m. Monday at FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville.


Mr. Turadek died Aug. 4, 2006 at his home in Minden. He was born Oct. 8, 1956 in Milwaukee, Wis. to Ervine Turadek and Sandra Lipinski.


Before moving to Minden, Mr. Turadek lived at Mountain View, Calif.


He completed 14 years of school and was a software engineer. He was a mathematician, scientist and philosopher, occasional inventor and mentor.


He served three years in the U.S. Army.


He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the ACLU. He enjoyed coffee, cigarettes and inventing.


Among his survivors are his parents; ex-wife Signe Turadek; longtime companion Jesse Hughes; daughter Janna Turadek of Minden; sister Julie Piz; brother Dave Turadek; one niece and two nephews.


Cremation will take place at FitzHenry's Crematory in Carson City.
