Digest: Feather River to visit Douglas



Feather River College's softball coach, Merle Trueblood, will be at Douglas High School Wednesday, Dec. 13 from 11 a.m. to noon with any seniors and juniors who have an interest in playing softball at the college level.




Wildcats wrestling sign-ups


The Douglas Wildcat youth wrestling is taking sign-ups for the 2006-07 season.


The club is open to boys and girls ages 5 and up. Cost is $80 each for the first two children in a family, $60 for the third and $55 each for four or more.


Participants must bring a copy of their birth certificates to the sign-ups.


The season runs from January to March with tournaments all over Northern Nevada on the weekends.


The team practices two to three times a week.

Ski club sign-ups


The Douglas County Saturday and Sunday ski clubs have scheduled their sign-ups for Dec. 18 at Minden Elementary School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.


Ages 8 to 12 pay $145 for the season and ages 13 to 18 pay $235. The cost includes transportation and lift tickets for skiing or snowboarding.


All lessons, taught by instructors at Heavenly, are an extra $60.


Skiers and snowboarders must provide their own equipment and lunch. Late sign-ups will be an additional $50.


The season runs from January to March with school buses leaving the Douglas High School parking lot at 7:30 a.m. on Saturdays or Sundays for Heavenly Lake Tahoe.

Adult flag football sign-ups


The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department is currently taking registration for the Adult Flag Football League.


Registration deadline is Dec. 29 and registration will be on a first-come-first-serve basis.


Cost is $430 per team. All games will be played on Sundays at Stodick Park.


Season begins Jan. 14.

Old Guys Basketball


Men 35 and older interested in playing pickup basketball are invited to the basketball court in the Pastoral Center at St. Gall Catholic Church every Sunday at 4 p.m. and Wednesday at 7 p.m.


After teams are chosen, games go either full-court or half-court depending on how many show up. The sessions are strictly for fun and exercise.


Cost is $50, which is donated to the church for court upkeep. The sessions run from September to June.
