Girls' Basketball: Coleville tops Excel Christian

The Coleville girls' basketball team overcame the absence of both starting guards and defeated the hosting Excel Christian Warriors Wednesday night by a final score of 51-40.

Team leader Amara Rowley and sophomore point guard Kassi Pemberton were both out of town on vacation, pressing Sarah Holden and Claudia Merito into the starting lineup.

Both girls responded well, with Holden scoring a career-high 12 points, including six critical free-throws in the final quarter.

Junior power forward Kimberly Torley also had an outstanding performance scoring a game-high 21 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

Kayla Johnson and Molly Garcia scored six points each and both played very well defensively. Skyler Isbell came off the bench to lead the Lady Wolves with 12 rebounds.

"I was very proud of the way our girls responded," Sandy said. "I was very worried about our depth at the beginning of the season.

"Sarah and Claudia have worked very hard to improve their games and look ready to really help us once league begins. This team is very tough mentally, plays hard every night and always seems to find a way to get it done."

The Lady Wolves end the preseason at 6-5 and open league play Jan. 5 with a home game against the Virginia City Muckers.
