A 31-year-old Gardnerville man was tackled by a shopper at Smith's grocery store after he reportedly tried to leave without paying for $52 worth of top sirloin.
Kyle Edward Volland, 31, was arrested Feb. 25 after deputies were called to the store on a petty larceny report.
The store manager told deputies a man set off the store's electronic detector when he left without paying for the two packages of meat.
She yelled at the man to stop and when he didn't, a customer tackled Volland and sat on him until deputies arrived.
Volland reportedly apologized for the incident. His blood-alcohol content tested at .16, two times the legal limit.
n A 51-year-old Sparks man whose blood-alcohol content tested at more than three times the legal limit was arrested Feb. 25 on a charge of driving under the influence with one prior.
His blood-alcohol content tested at .26, more than three times the legal limit of .08 for driving in Nevada.
According to deputies, Walter Lane Wilson Jr. ignored an order to stop even though he was only driving 5 mph.
A deputy observed Wilson driving into the northbound lane on Highway 395 at 8:45 p.m. even though he was heading south. He finally stopped at Esmeralda and Sixth Street.
Wilson reportedly fell to the ground when the deputy asked him to get out of the car and on his knees.
He has a prior DUI from Jan. 10. 2001, in Sparks.
Deputies found a dog, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and an open beer in his vehicle.
The dog was turned over to Douglas County Animal Control.
