Semi truck goes off cliff in Hope Valley

A full-sized semi-truck went off the edge of Highway 88 and over a cliff at approximately 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning one mile east of of the Hope Valley Resort in Woodford's Canyon.

The the truck driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle and he was Care-Flighted to Washoe Medical Center. He reportedly suffered a head injury, although the extent of the injury was not available.

Traffic was backed up about a half-mile either way through about 12:15 p.m. as crews worked at clearing the area.

The truck was leaking a substantial amount of diesel fuel as crews attempted to reach the driver. Hazmat crews were being called in to clean up the assorted wood chips and fertilizer that had been on the truck's flat bed before being scattered during the crash.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known, but officials at the scene believed the driver may have overcorrected while taking a turn in the road.
