Turn back time at the Genoa Renaissance Faire

Step back to the year 1590 and imagine yourself entering the village of Genovese. This is the weekend of the yearly joust and revelry. You have waited a year for the much anticipated games. Genovese is a place where nobles, peasants and every sort of scalawag rub elbows. It's a village whose livelihood depends on the sea and pirate trade.

You know at this gala, exotic food and ales will be available to those who have a spare coin. You will see wares never before seen from far off lands. There will be vile acts of magic, dowsing and the stocks for those poor souls who happen to break the law. The Irish lassies will be dancing their traditional reels. You will experience the clashing sound of steel as fighters try to prove who is more masterful with the blade. From the Far East come the dancers covered in silk scarves. Skits will be performed to impress the nobles. The court fool will be there to make everyone laugh and jugglers will show off their skills. All sorts of music will abound. You will need to put on your thinking caps for the scavenger hunt with exotic prizes for the winners.

The time now is fast coming upon us, it will be this Saturday and Sunday in the village of Genovese located on the south end of Genoa. The cost is $7 for lords and ladies, $6 for sages (60 and older) as well as squires and maidens (ages 6-12). The wee ones are free (5 and younger). The fete will begin at 10 a.m. and cease at 6 p.m. both days.

The fair is located on the south end of Main Street (next to the post office) in Genoa. This promises to be a fun-packed weekend for the entire family. For more information visit Web site www.genoaevents.com or call 782-4951.
