The R-C Morning Report

Kingsbury Grade remains closed now and state engineers are unwilling to estimate when it will re-open.

The main route between Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe closed Wednesday morning after engineers spotted a place where the mountainside above the grade was becoming unstable.

On Wednesday morning, Nevada Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Magruder said the engineers didn't even want to speculate on when the Grade will reopen.

Meanwhile, the two alternate routes, south on Highway 88 to Picket's Junction and north through Carson City to Highway 50, are both scheduled to see road construction.

Crews are supposed to begin night work on the roundabout at the intersection of 88 and County Road. Flaggers will be controlling the intersection from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday through Friday through June 24. Work will be ongoing through August.

Highway 50 will be down to one lane of east and westbound traffic from Zephyr Cove to Cave Rock 24/7 through mid-October.

The high temperature is supposed to hit 94 degrees today, but yesterday some thermometers were registering 99. The National Weather Service is predicting those temperatures for Friday and that it will hit 100 on Saturday.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is reporting animals in the roadway at Highway 395 and Leviathan Mine Road. Cows have been out on the road for the past few days in the Pine Nuts. Motorists are advised to keep an eye out for creatures, both domestic and otherwise, when traveling the highway south of Gardnerville.
