Sharkey's Swing For A Cure golf tourney tees off Saturday



The Sharkey Begovich fourth annual Swing For a Cure golf tournament is Saturday at Carson Valley Golf Course, 1027 Riverview Drive in Gardnerville. This year there are some new twists and surprises, "just as Sharkey would have liked," according to organizers.

Begovich, longtime casino owner, rancher, benefactor, businessman and Carson Valley resident, died of cancer in 2002. In 2003, his family and friends started the Sharkey Begovich Swing For a Cure memorial golf tournament in his honor. The event benefits the Carson/Tahoe Cancer Center.


Event activities:


n 6:15 a.m. - Continental breakfast, the driving range is open

n 7 a.m. - Shotgun start Flight 1


n 12:15 p.m. - Hors d'oeuvres on the course, driving range open


n 1 p.m. - Shotgun start Flight 2

n 6 p.m. - Player awards dinner and prizes at Sharkey's Casino, sponsored by Sharkey's Casino and the Holder Hospitality Group


Awards include: longest drive, closest to the pin, hole prizes, golf vacations and more.


The day of golf is sponsored by Sharkey's Casino, Harley Davidson Financial Services and Carson Valley Golf Course.
