Farmers Market opens

Opening day for the ninth season of the Farmers Market in Gardnerville is about to commence.

Weekly on Wednesday mornings, farmers and vendors from far and wide will convene for a rendezvous in Lampe Park. The market opens at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and lasts through 1 p.m.

In keeping with a "food, farm or dirt" policy, the market has everything from "seriously fresh produce" to outdoor bits and pieces. Fresh strawberries and ripe delicious cherries start out the seasonal fruit with pluots and peaches by mid-season then an array of melons, pumpkins and gourds for the finale. There will be unique gifts, kettle corn, fresh lemonade as well as slushies and bakery goodies. To add to the varied venue of vendors, every week a local "non-profit-for-a-great-cause" organization will be set up.

Bring a friend and don't miss the fun every Wednesday through September in Lampe Park.

The Lampe Park Farmers Market is presented by Sierra Farmers' Markets and Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department. For more information call 782-9828.
