Tigers to play home-opener Thursday

It took almost the whole season, but the Douglas Tiger football team will play at home for the first time this year in the regular-season finale against Wooster Thursday night.

The freshman team takes the field at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity will kick off at 7 p.m. There will be no junior varsity game as Wooster does not have a team.

Douglas has been awaiting the completion of their field as the more-than $1 million renovation of Keith Duke Roman Field has run into numerous delays along the way.

Crews from Sportexe have done a phenomenal job in getting the field ready in a little less than two weeks of work. As of Monday afternoon, they were scattering the artificial dirt made of recycled tires on the field and doing assorted touch-up work.

Douglas claimed the Sierra League title with a win over Reno High School last week and will return home with a 7-2 record overall, 6-0 in Sierra League play.
