Soccer: LeFever breaks records as Douglas shuts down Wooster

With standout forward Morgan LeFever rewriting the record books for the Douglas girls' soccer team this season, it might have been easy to miss how well the Tiger defense has played through the second half of the season.

Douglas allowed just five goals in its last eight games and goalie Jamie Greer posted four of her six shutouts on the season in the month of October.

Greer hasn't allowed a goal in Douglas' last 255 minutes of soccer.

While she has developed into one of the strongest keepers in the region this season, it can't go without notice that the back four for the Tigers has been nothing short of dominating during that stretch.

Defenders Marisa Bertolone-Smith, Nicole Didero, Allison Andraski, Tina Dantin and Lisa Christen have all been solid for the Tigers and that continued Tuesday afternoon as Douglas topped Wooster 7-0.

LeFever scored three goals, all in the second half, to break the Northern 4A record for goals in a season (26), and the school and Northern 4A records for goals in a career (56).

The Tigers got on the board early and LeFever assisted Ally Freitas on her seventh goal of the season in the fifth minute.

Michelle Day scored her fifth goal of the season on a Freitas in the 10th minute and Katie Nalder scored her sixth on another Freitas assist in the 19th minute.

Rachel Van Roy had Douglas' other goal in the game, coming on a Meghan Emerson assist in the 38th minute.

Douglas (10-5-4 overall and 8-3-3 in league play) will take on Reed, the No. 1 seed out of the High Desert League, in the first round of the regional playoffs Saturday at 10 a.m. at Damonte Ranch High School in Reno.

Douglas had to take on the Raiders in the first round of the playoffs last year, dropping a 3-1 decision in extremely windy conditions.

The Tigers are undefeated in neutral situations this year and are 2-2-1 in non-league matches.

BOYS' SOCCER

The boys' soccer team should have gotten the No. 3 seed out of the Sierra League by virtue of the second head-to-head matchup tiebreaker with Reno, but were instead given the No. 4 seed.

They will be paired with High Desert No. 1 McQueen Saturday at noon at Damonte Ranch.

The Tigers beat McQueen 3-0 earlier in the season.
