This weekend in Carson Valley sports

Game of the week

Either one of the Douglas soccer playoff games Saturday morning will be good to see.

The girls' squad kicks off at 10 a.m. against the High Desert No. 1 seed, Reed, at Damonte Ranch High School in Reno.

Reed ousted in the Tigers in the first round of last year's playoffs and Douglas would doubtlessly like to see some revenge.

Douglas has been hot as of late, holding its opponents scoreless over the last four games.

The boys' team follows in the noon game at Damonte Ranch, taking on No. 1-seed McQueen, a team the Tigers beat 3-0 earlier this season.

Douglas has been battling injuries all over the field over the last three weeks but has had some time to get healthy.

The Tigers are no strangers to coming in as the lower seed in the playoffs. They have recorded first-round victories against the higher-seeded team in each of the last two years.

Thursday night football

A little early to be considered the weekend, but the final week of the high school football regular season starts tonight (Oct. 26) with Douglas playing its first, and possibly only, home game of the season against the Wooster Colts at 7:30 p.m.

Douglas has been waiting the completion of its new field all season, but will have to head back out on the road next week despite clinching home-field advantage.

The field will be off limits as work begins on installing the all-weather track.

Pop Warner Playoffs

The Douglas Pop Warner Football program is enjoying another successful season at all levels.

Playoffs begin at Stodick Park Friday night.
