Valley kids play at Nevada State Open

The NorCal-sanctioned Nevada State Open was recently held at the Lakeridge Tennis Club in Reno.


Kari TenBroeck, 12, was seeded No. 1 in the girls' 12 division but ended up losing a hard-fought battle to a Californian 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (11-9).


Nick Goodner, 9, won the consolation bracket of the boys' 10 division all his matches were decided by third-set tiebreakers 8-10, 10-6, 10-6.


In the girls' 14 division, Amelia Ritger, 14, lost the first round 6-4, 7-5 but came back to win three matches in the consolation bracket, winning the final 6-0, 6-1.


Keagan Chip, 17, was seeded No. 2 in the boys' 18 division and got a bye in the first round.


He won 6-3, 6-0 in the second and lost the next 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.


James TenBroeck, 13, played in his second tournament of the four-stage Nike Junior Tour Series.


At Burlingame, Calif., he lost in the quarterfinals to the No. 1 seed 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 7-5.


In Fremont, he again lost in the quarterfinals to the No. 9 seed 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-2).
