The R-C Morning Report: College closing?

About 30 students at Bently Hall, the Minden campus of Western Nevada College, have signed a petition to keep the campus open by Wednesday night. The campus serves 679 students, but its finals week and the news didn't come out in the Valley until Wednesday.

The petition is sitting in the college lounge. The campus was built using donations raised in the Valley. College officials warn budget cuts could result in its being closed and mothballed.

Work on the barrier in the median of Highway 395 has slowed down for a bit. The state has made substantial progress south with the cable barrier designed to prevent lanes from lofting into the opposite lanes of traffic on the highway between Carson and Minden. Motorists are reminded to slow down to 55 mph where work is being done.

It's cold outside this morning with the temperature hitting 12 degrees before sunrise in Minden. Today will be mostly sunny and the high will climb to a balmy 38 degrees. Looks like Sunday before there's a chance of any weather. A temperature inversion has kicked in, so it will be smoky in the lower parts of the Valley where folks are using their woodstoves.
