This year in Carson Valley

Being in Carson Valley in 2007 meant enjoying craft fairs, street fairs and harvest fairs. There were antique shows, art shows, car shows and tractor shows. Fruits and vegetables were available at farmer's markets from May to September in Minden and Gardnerville.

Valley audiences were entertained with Douglas High School and Carson Valley Middle School performances of "Twelfth Night," "Schoolhouse Rock Live" and "The Wonderland Story."

Two Valley professional theater companies presented several plays throughout the year - The Dakota Organization produced "Sylvia" and "The Nerd," while the Carson Valley Community Theatre presented "Blackjack Bottom" and "Steel Magnolias."

There were melodramas, a lecture series and Student Day events at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center.

Many events could be attended without paying an admission price. There were free concerts and movies in the parks. Picnics were serenaded by jug bands, Celtic music, classic rock and Southern rock bands, guitar soloists, orchestra and surf band music.

Family favorite movies, "Cars," "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Casablanca," were presented under the stars, free of charge, at Heritage Park.

The 97th annual Carson Valley Days celebration returned in 2007, as did many other events that have been happening yearly in the Valley including the Pony Express Reride, Minden Street Festival, Kiwanis Turkey Bingo, Genoa Home & Garden Tour, Haunted Weekend and the Parade of Lights.

Following the proverbial "a picture is worth a thousand words," the year may be better reviewed in photos of Carson Valley residents enjoying Carson Valley.
