The R-C Morning Report

Genoans are discussing possibly moving Candy Dance to Bowers Mansion or changing the date of the annual event to April Fool's Day at their weekly meeting 7 p.m. tonight. The presence of competing festivals and the town's increasing smallness has organizers looking for a larger, yet more easily controlled venue, like Lawlor Events Center or the National Bowling Stadium.

To deal with anticipated budget cuts, the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Commission will consider a variety of means of raising money through fees at their 6 p.m. meeting today. Possible suggestions include increasing the cost of using Topaz Lake to $1 million per person (you only need a couple to make the year's budget) and charging youth sports a per player fee. Those sports with several team members may object to having to pay more than those with fewer members, but it may increase the popularity of volleyball and horseshoes over the more traditional football and soccer.

There's a 40 percent chance of rain tonight. Well not really tonight because it's not predicted to arrive until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning. Like the other two items, this one has some truth and some exaggeration. Happy April Fools Day.
