Free movie in the park today

The Town of Gardnerville's Movies in the Park continues with Carson Valley Pops Orchestra entertaining with show tunes before the classic movie "Citizen Kane" at dusk today in Heritage Park, one block east of Highway 395 off Gilman Avenue.

Bring a blanket, sand chairs and bug repellent to watch movies under the stars. Pack a picnic or enjoy treats offered by Carson Valley Lions Club and Boy Scout Troop 411, Coldstone Creamery, Papa Murphy's Take 'N Bake Pizza and Subway.

The last movie of the summer is Disney's "Meet the Robinsons" on Sept. 5.

Movies in the Park are sponsored by Bad Bonz Motorsports, BodyWise Physical Therapy, Burger King, Carson Valley Accounting, Carson Valley Medical Center, Colonial Bank, Mark Smith Tire Center, Inc. Woodturners club meets Saturday

There will be a demonstration of off-center turning during the meeting of Carson Valley Woodturners Club, 9 a.m. Saturday.

Club member Gene Choquette, a recent winner in Highland Woodworking's 4-n-1 Screwdriver Turning Contest, demonstrates techniques for screwdriver designs during the club's regular meeting.

Free concert on the green Sunday

Tickets on sale

for 'Hanging Tree'

Tickets are on sale for "The Curse of the Hanging Tree" at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395 in Gardnerville and the Genoa Court House Museum. Performances of the Douglas County Historical Society's "The Curse of the Hanging Tree" are at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Aug. 22 and 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Aug. 23 in downtown Genoa.

Tickets are $15 per person. Advanced tickets are recommended as there are 55 seats per performance. To order tickets by credit card, call 782-2555. There is an additional $1 charge for postage and handling.
