The first of a series of open houses to discuss the new travel restrictions is 4-6 p.m. tonight in the Mineral County Library in Hawthorne. The U.S. Forest Service is also holding open houses in Bridgeport 4-6 p.m. Tuesday and at Smith Valley High School 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

A 38-year-old Gardnerville man faces more than a decade in prison for attempted lewdness with a child under the age of 14 after he said he believed a jury would convict him of a more severe charge. Edgardo Flores is scheduled to appear in district court in Minden for sentencing. He could face up to 20 years in prison, though prosecutors have agreed to recommend no more than 10 years, with a minimum four years before he would be eligible for parole.

The driver in a June drug arrest is scheduled to be sentenced for trafficking in district court this morning. Trent A. Williams, 18, faces up to six years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000 in connection with a drug sting that intercepted 200 capsules of the drug TFMPP, known on the street as Mollies.

The National Weather Service has detected a disturbance in the force that might actually bring rain and snow next weekend. The predictions calls for a chance of rain with a snow level around 5,500 feet on Saturday and a chance of snow showers on Saturday night. In the meantime, expect mostly sunny days with the highs around 50 and chilly lows down below 20 degrees.
