Election season begins Monday for judges

The first official filing period of the 2008 election begins on Monday when candidates for judicial offices may sign up.

The Nevada Supreme Court moved election sign-ups for judges to Jan. 7-18.

With less than two weeks to go until the Jan. 19 caucuses both parties are preparing for the neighborhood meetings that will determine which of the candidates will represent their parties in November.

Univeristy of Nevada, Reno, political science professor and interim dean for the College of Arts and Science Eric Herzik will speak at the Sierra Nevada Republican Women luncheon and meeting Wednesday at Two Guys from Italy in Gardnerville.

Social begins at 11:30 a.m. and luncheon/meeting at noon. Cost of luncheon with reservation is $10. Walk-ins $15.

Douglas Democrats are hoping to see at least one presidential candidate for their Turn Nevada Blue dinner on Jan. 12.

Guest speaker for the dinner will be Reno Gazette-Journal 28-year columnist Cory Farley. There will be a no-host bar starting at 5 p.m. with the dinner served at 6 p.m.Cost is $75 per person.
