Cats abandoned by Gardnerville foreclosure are desperate for homes

About 10 felines"half of them kittens"have been discovered at a Gardnerville home vacated by its owners because of foreclosure.

The animals were found by a kind local realtor who arranged for the animals to be fed and watered until they are rescued.

Pets are the latest victims of the foreclosure crisis. Shelters in Nevada and across the country have seen a sharp increase in the number of people giving up their pets because they have been forced out of their homes.

Nevada Humane Society is providing spay/neuter services and vaccinations for the cats at its shelter in Reno.

Spaying and neutering pets is key to reducing the number of homeless animals coming into community shelters. It saves taxpayer dollars and is the most humane way to manage cat populations.

To help with feeding or transportation, adopt or foster any of the abandoned cats, or to donate to their care, please contact Nevada Humane Society at 775-856-2000, ext. 336.
