'Snowshoe' event at Genoa museum

Snowshoe Thompson Day, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Genoa Court House Museum, includes a visit from Don "Snowshoe" Thompson who gives a talk about the man who carried mail across the Sierra on cross-country skis from 1856 to 1876.

Born John Tostensen in Telemark, Norway, in 1827, John "Snowshoe" Thompson immigrated to the United States as a young man and became famous for his weekly round trips from Genoa to Placerville.

Snowshoe Thompson events include the singing of the Norwegian national anthem by Elaine Bianchi. Information, 782-4325.
