School reopens after flooding clean-up

Douglas High School is back in session after an 80-gallon hot water tank at Douglas High School ruptured on Sunday.

The counseling area, front offices, and adjacent hallways had 2-3 inches of water, forced the school to close on Monday.

"East Fork Fire District came in and did a fabulous job getting the water out of there," said Douglas County School District Superintendent Carol Lark. "Luckily there were staff working in the building on Sunday."

Lark said the water's been cleaned up, the tank is in the process of being replaced.

"I'm thankful it had nothing to do with a student," said Lark. "I think this speaks very clearly of our need to fund maintenance for these old buildings."

Students will have to make up the day off at the end of the school year.
