Pasture golf almost here

This Saturday will hopefully bring good weather for all the people who enjoy the Antelope Valley Lions Club's Cow Pasture Golf Tournament. It is eagerly awaited by all the golfers I know, and they are never disappointed. Tee-off time is at 9 a.m., with sign-ups at 8 a.m.

There is still time to register by calling either Dave at (530) 495-2822 or Clint at (530) 495-2935. Even if you don't golf, come out to Baldo Girogi's ranch on Topaz Lane and enjoy the great sparerib lunch with all the trimmings.

Fishing season

The Topaz Lake Fishing Derby will continue until Sunday, April 13. Then, soon after, on Saturday, April 26, the California season will open on the West Walker River. There are some good trout plants taking place, so nobody should be disappointed. Get your license and psych up - it's time.

High Point Curve correction

The local transportation commission is still considering this project. It is possible that they will take a no action position or decide on a much smaller amount of work than originally suggested, at specific locations. If done as originally suggested, it would have a huge effect on our community and local businesses during the very long construction time.

Mountain warfare training challenge

This annual 10K race, which takes place off-road as a cross country obstacle race, will take place on May 17 at the Mountain Warfare Training Center on Highway 108, south of Walker. This is a race for really fit competitors and something they can be proud of achieving. Information at www.y-events.com/mwtc/.

Allergy season starting already

With our moist winter and enough sunshine, the pollen creators are already busy going after those of us with seasonal allergies. Be sure to have your allergy medicine handy so that you can still get out and enjoy our beautiful countryside, as well as working in your yard.

Sad news

Longtime local resident Jo Duxbury recently passed away in Walker. I have been told that a memorial service will be scheduled within a couple of weeks. I will let you know as soon as I get any information about date, time and place, as I know many people will want to attend.
