Douglas players earn postseason honors

The Douglas High baseball and softball teams put a combined seven players on the first team in the All-Sierra League postseason honors released after the state tournament over the weekend.


Douglas High catcher Jordan Hadlock was named the Sierra League Baseball Player of the Year.


Teammates Tanner Thomas (outfield), Tyler Hoelzen (pitcher) and Troy Torres (designated hitter) were named to the first team in baseball while Lauren Hoppe (center field), Stephanie Harper (pitcher) and Emily Weaver (shortstop) earned first-team honors in softball.


Tyler May (pitcher/outfielder) was a second-team honoree in baseball, as was shortstop Tim Rudnick and center fielder Beau Davis, and Mackenzie Cauley (right field), Katrina Morgan (catcher) and Morgan Blomstrom were second-teamers in softball.


Kameron VanWinkle, Jeff Crozier and Michael Whalin were honorable mentions in baseball and Marina Diaz and Rebecca Trute were softball honorable mentions.


Hadlock led the Tigers with 11 doubles, nine home runs and 35 RBIs this season and had three triples. He struck out 17 in 10 appearances on the mound and was quite arguably the best defensive catcher in the state this season.


Thomas had six doubles, five triples, three home runs and 23 RBIs this season and Hoelzen went 8-2 on the mound with 60 strikeouts. He was 7-0 in league play and threw a no-hitter against North Valleys.


Torres hit three doubles, two triples, one home run and finished with 25 RBIs.


Rudnick hit 10 doubles, five triples and had 30 RBIs and Whalin was 4-2 on the mound.


May had key wins on the mound against Damonte and Carson before a shoulder injury essentially ended his season. Davis was one of the better defensive outfielders in the region this year.


Hoppe hit four home runs and drove in 40 RBIs this season while batting .415, Weaver batted .470 and Harper was 23-6 in the circle with 150 strikeouts.


Cauley and Morgan were surprise snubs for the first team as Cauley batted .545 with seven doubles, seven triples and 32 RBIs this season and Morgan led the team with seven home runs, 13 doubles, 47 RBIs and a .439 average. She had an RBI to go with every hit she record this season.


Coaches from around the league voted on the honors after the regular season ended.
