George 'Joe' E. Jerdon

A memorial service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Garden Cemetery in Gardnerville for George "Joe" E. Jerdon, 87, who died May 23, 2009, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Mr. Jerdon was born Oct. 2, 1921, in Marysville, Calif., and lived in Athol, Idaho.

He served with the 79th Infantry Division, 314th Regiment of the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war he settled in the Grass Valley, Calif., area where he worked in the Empire and Brunswick gold mines and in the logging industry.

In 1964 he and his family moved to Minden, where he was an active member of the Douglas County Search & Rescue Sheriff's Posse.

After the death of his wife, Ruth, he moved to Athol, Idaho, in 1994 to be near two of his children.

He is survived by his sister, Maddie Frost, of Sacramento; son Bill Jerdon of Athol, Idaho; daughters Patsy Smith of Bloomington, Ind., Dottie Dinel of Hayden, Idaho, and Terri Wills of Paradise, Calif.; five stepchildren, 21 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Saturday's graveside service will be followed with a luncheon at the JT Basque Bar & Dining Room.
