The pilot of a single-engine air tanker died when the plane crashed while fighting a fire northeast of Fallon on Thursday. The 1,300-acre Hoyt fire is burning in the Clan Alpine Mountains. The plane crashed on Thursday afternoon and the pilot was taken to Lovelock, where he was pronounced dead. Smoke from the fire is blowing due north.

An impasse in construction on the redevelopment land on the Douglas County line is the reason former actor Max Baer is looking at the Silver Club in Sparks as an alternative to building in Douglas County. Spokesman Don Smit said Thursday that until the basic infrastructure goes in, they won't be able to build the casino.

Meanwhile neighbors are complaining to state environmental officials about dust flying off the large site where tons of dirt were moved last year to comply with a requirement the developer get a grading permit to qualify for $24.7 million in redevelopment money.

It looks like the system bringing thunderstorms into Western Nevada have been delayed another day, according to the National Weather Service. But the possibility of showers and thunderstorms has gone up to 40 percent on Saturday night and will extend into Monday. Today's high is forecast to be 92.
