Marvin "Gene" Ditmars

A memorial service is 11 a.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gardnerville for Minden resident Marvin "Gene" Ditmars, 90, who died Dec. 6, 2009, in Carson City.

Born Aug. 28, 1919, in Paris, Mo., to Charles and Margaret Ditmars, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was awarded the Bronze Star.

He worked as a unit operator for Union Oil for 34 years in Wilmington, Calif. He married Audrey on June 6, 1964.

Mr. Ditmars enjoyed gardening, playing golf, bowling and going to the horse races.

He and his wife Audrey moved to Minden in 1992 from Long Beach, Calif.

He is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mr. Ditmars is survived by wife Audrey of Minden; sons Kerry Ditmars of Arizona, Steve (Barbi) Ditmars of Long Beach, Calif.; daughter Jeanne Cartwright of Moundhouse; stepson Roger Hollis of Eugene, Ore., and stepdaughter, Vicki Hallam of Winnemucca; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Donation may be made in Mr. Ditmars' honor to Trinity Lutheran Church, 1480 Douglas Ave., Gardnerville, or the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley. Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of final arrangements.
