Altering document extends sentence

A whited out minus sign will cost a Douglas County jail inmate another six months added to his sentence.

Ben Van Parsley, 38, pleaded guilty to petite theft for whiting out the minus sign in front of the $82.62 amount on his inmate account.

Parsley was in jail for writing checks with insufficient funds. He was scheduled to get out of jail in 3 1/2 months.
