The R-C Morning Report

The possibility of closing a Valley elementary school will be discussed at the Douglas County School District today. Superintendent Carol Lark will present the implications of moving ninth-graders back to the high school and the sixth-grades into the middle schools in 2010. The move would be prompted by the continued decrease in the number of students. School board members meet at 3:30 p.m. at Douglas High School. The discussion is scheduled for 3:55.

An impact fee to help pay for transportation improvements will go before Douglas County planning commissioners today for a recommendation to the county commission. The fee would be added to the cost of a building permit and could cost as much as $7,600 for a home and a varying rate for commercial buildings, depending on their impact. Planning commissioners meet at 1 p.m. in the Douglas County Administrative Building in Minden.

It looks like March will settle down for the foreseeable future with nothing in the forecast for the next week. Expect sunny skies today with a high temperature of 45 degrees. The lows will stay chilly, in the 20s. It is 18 degrees in Genoa, and 16 degrees in Minden.
