Don't close the DMV Office

EDITOR:

I believe the residents of the Carson Valley deserve a DMV office. Times are financially rough for residents as well as government. It seems government is never satisfied and feels the constant need to think and grow big. Well, there is a wake-up call that is going out to everyone. Those who live within their financial means pay for those who do not.

Make your budget cuts by scaling down " such as a smaller building, fewer hours, days and manpower. I can live with that, but don't close our DMV office. I have always appreciated our small and friendly DMV office. It would not be in the best interest of our citizens to have to drive to Carson City and deal with a larger, unfamiliar setting. There are many seniors who would find the drive to Carson City and surroundings quite difficult, if not impossible.

We are working hard to continue our Plan for Prosperity and maintaining a DMV office is included. Money and the budget are important, of course. Therefore, our dollars must stay in Douglas County.

But there are qualities such as availability, friendliness and small community which make us such a unique valley. Please don't take that away from us. Our quality of life has more value than gold. It is the reason we choose to live in this beautiful valley.

Perhaps we'll all learn a valuable lesson from these lean years. If people, as well as government, were not so greedy and more responsible, it wouldn't be such a catastrophe than things are scaled back to where they should have been all along. There would be a rainy day fund to reach into and we would be more content with happy, smiling faces.

Again, please do not close our Valley DMV office.
