District must protect students

EDITOR:

We need to address the Meneley kill list. Officials have found no "evidence" of it; however, students came forward and stated they saw it being written. The student himself has acknowledged he has one. So, it really doesn't matter where it went. What matters is that he is removed from our schools, to help insure the safety of our children.

This child needs extensive help. I hope his parents, the county, or someone is able to assist with that. But, that still leaves us with the immediately issue of where to place him. At Meneley? No. Students and parents will not be comfortable with him returning to school. He should be removed, and given counseling. Perhaps a service will be able to volunteer their time.

The bottom line is that you simply cannot return him to a school where he has targeted children to kill. This child has missed quite a bit of school due to numerous suspensions, has hit another child in the face with a rock, has made a kill list, and he wants to know where to get a gun. I see absolutely no reason to keep him in a school system that he continually abuses and disrupts. He needs to be in a school that can offer counseling and guidance to him.

The innocent children at Meneley have the right to be safe, let's make sure they are. The school board must make sure of it.
