Woman accused of illegally obtaining drugs

A 46-year-old Gardnerville Ranchos woman is in Douglas County Jail on $50,000 cash bail accused of illegally obtaining methadone with forged prescriptions at three pharmacies.

Roxanne Ruth Mason is to appear for arraignment Monday in East Fork Justice Court.

She is charged with six felonies including three counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and three counts of burglary.

She is accused of obtaining methadone from pharmacies at Rite-Aid, Walgreens and Smith's between Feb. 1-28.

Deputies were called when one of the pharmacists became suspicious because she recognized the suspect from an earlier visit.

She determined the prescription had been forged and contacted the sheriff's office.

Mason was taken into custody Thursday after deputies served a search warrant on her home in the 700-block of Hornet Drive in the Gardnerville Ranchos.

Court documents indicate Mason was arrested Jan. 27 for possession of a controlled substance, heroin, and paraphernalia.

She was pulled over in a traffic stop and the arresting officer determined her to be lethargic. Mason reportedly said she was taking methadone.

She tested negative for alcohol.

K9 officer Scout alerted for controlled substances and officers recovered heroin, paraphernalia and Xanax in a purse in her vehicle.
