Minden fire claims workshop

A Friday evening fire on Mono Avenue in Minden came close to setting surrounding homes on fire.

The fire started in a workshop behind the home at 1606 Mono Ave. It was reported at about 6:59 p.m. on Friday.

When fire units from Minden and Gardnerville arrived, the fire had spread to the trees and the back of the home.

"It threatened houses on either side of it," East Fork Capt. Terry Taylor said Monday. "It set the back wall and that part of the roof of the home on fire."

Taylor said the shake shingles sent embers onto the roofs of homes across the street.

"It flashed and it really roared," Taylor said of the blaze. "It set tree on fire that dropped a limb. The wind was pushing it right toward the house. It was a good stop."
