Submissions wanted for Tahoe Arts and Mountain Culture sticker

Staff Reports

Tahoe Arts and Mountain Culture is searching for an image for its fourth annual collectible sticker.

To promote the local art community, each year TAMC Web site creator Becky Bell produces a collectible sticker featuring artwork from a local artist that captures the essence of Lake Tahoe and represents mountain culture. There will be 1,000 stickers printed.

"Mackerel Sky" by South Lake Tahoe artist Phyllis Shafer was selected in 2009 as the third in the series of collectible stickers because of its lyrical interpretation of communion with nature.

"Powerful images by local artists such as 'Mackerel Sky' spark conversations and connections among people as they relive their experiences at Lake Tahoe," said Bell, who first released the stickers in 2007. "Each artist brings their own interpretation of the area and gives us a strong sense of place and belonging."

Local visual artists who would like their artwork considered should send a jpeg file of the image and a brief artist statement by May 15, 2010 to Becky Bell at editor@tahoeculture.com. Paintings, mixed media, and photography will be considered.

Regular features on www.TahoeCulture.com include the Tahoe-Truckee art scene, resident artists, community events and performances, locally made products, culinary art, hidden hot spots, green businesses, eco-tips, mountain health, local profiles, outdoor recreation and cultural heritage events and sites.
