A memorial service will be announced at a later date for Gardnerville resident Hugh Allyn Spencer, 59, who died at home on April 5, 2010, after suffering from multiple illnesses for several years.
Born Oct. 26, 1950, in Newport Beach, Calif., Mr. Spencer graduated from Newport Harbor High and then received his bachelor's degree from the University of Utah at Cedar City in psychology. He married Carla L. Cole in 1983.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Capt. Eugene Ralph Spencer and Megan Agnes Rudolph.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Carla; son Travis; and sister Christine (Jay) Hooker of Orange Park Acres, Calif.
Mr. Spencer had a passion for fishing. His sister's fondest memories are of him sitting on a dock in Newport Harbor for hours on end with his legs and arms crossed and holding onto his fishing pole waiting for a big one. Besides fishing, he enjoyed music, birding, camping and hunting.
Walton's Funerals and Cremations of Gardnerville are in charge of final arrangements. A memorial service will follow for the family at a later date. Mr. Spencer's ashes will be returned to the sea.
