Mother and son in jail

The mother of a 16-year-old being held for violating his probation on involuntary manslaughter appeared in East Fork Justice Court on charges she possessed drugs and had a drunken teenager in her vehicle.

Nina Gomez, 33, asked to be released on her own recognizance on Wednesday, saying she had to care for her children.

She said she'd been working for two years, and needed to keep her job. Gomez said she was living in hotels until recently.

Justice of the Peace Jim EnEarl denied the request after prosecutor Erik Levin objected. Gomez is scheduled to appear back in East Fork Justice Court 1 p.m. Wednesday.
