Burn, baby, burn

There is only about one more month left to do an open burn and last weekend was almost the most perfect weather conditions to do so. I have so much respect for the firefighters when I light the pile on fire especially with the dry tumbleweeds at the bottom. They just take off and I stand back as far as I can.

This past weekend was not only a great time to burn but it was also time to turn the water back on to the sprinkler valves and fix what ever broke from last fall. This year I only had one stretch of pipe after the valves that a slip fitting will fix, yeah!

Girl Scout dance

Johnson Lane residents Kurt and daughter Danielle Hutchison won a trophy for Best Hip-Hop Dance. Congratulations. The Girl Scout dance was a great success with lots of father/grandfather with daughter participants.

Pinon Hills Elementary

Order your Pinon Hills Elementary School yearbook now because you are almost out of time. Call the office for more information at 267-3622.

Wednesday, April 28 from 4-8 p.m. you can enjoy dinner at the McDonald's on Highway 395 in Minden. Twenty percent of the gross sales will go to the school, so let's eat out that night.

The book fair started Monday and Family Night is 6-8 p.m. tonight. Come and check it out.

The school's ice cream social is May 14. It is highly recommended to buy your tickets ahead of time. Every year my children and I wait till the last minute and get stuck in the long lines. So, pre-purchase the amount of tickets you think you will need and save yourself some time. This year will have a gold fish toss and a dunk tank. Sounds like too much fun, see you there.

Entertainment books will be taking place in the next couple weeks and if you buy the 2011 book you will get the 2010 book for free. The 2011 books don't go home until October.

Trails Association

You are invited to join the Carson Valley Trails Association's Hike for Health Trails Challenge, April 22 through May 23. You can learn all about the trails in Carson Valley every Saturday if you register. Call Chic or Sue Moxley at 265-0766 for more information.

Wandering wheels

The Nevada Wandering Wheels motorcycle group will be meeting 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Jethro's in the Ranchos next to the bowling alley. This is a very fun group to ride with if you are interested. The ride this month will either be to Georgetown in California or Fallon if it's too cold to ride over the mountain. All riders are welcome. Call the president of the club for more information at 782-5802, or you can call me also.
