Governor tours rural Nevada today

Gov. Jim Gibbons kicks off a four-day campaign tour today covering cities across Northern Nevada in response to the growing enthusiasm and grassroots support he's received in rural counties throughout Nevada. The tour will include stops in Lyon County, Winnemucca, Lovelock and Elko.

"The response we're continuing to get from voters all over the rural counties in Nevada to our plans to fight national health care, immigration reform, and our push to bring in new, quality jobs to Nevada has been tremendous," Gibbons said. "We want to get out there and thank those who have supported our efforts and ask for their support for another four years to allow me to follow through with these plans that will surely put Nevada back on track."

Gibbons will make several stops along the way. Today, he will visit a fuel station at the Silver Springs Airport, meet supporters at the Lovelock Senior Center, and meet Pershing County Republicans and county commissioners to talk about important issues affecting them. On Thursday, Gibbons will speak at a 2010 Corridor of Renewable energy conference in Winnemucca, attend a meet-and-greet with Winnemucca officials and attend a local fundraiser given by John Ellison in Elko. He will take time to stop and meet with the public along the way.

"Our grassroots efforts have been extremely successful. We have opened four offices statewide with a fifth in the works, and have had an outstanding turnout of volunteers to help in the effort to get the word out through phone calls, signage and knocking on doors," said Campaign Director Ron Bath. "They have been amazing and enthusiastic. "The response to our phone calls and meet-and-greet efforts has been extremely positive."

In response to the overwhelming support of local volunteers, campaign offices have opened in Reno, Carson City, Henderson, Pahrump, and another is in the works in Elko.

"Voters understand that Jim Gibbons is fighting for them and has the proven leadership that Brian Sandoval lacks. Our campaign continues to gain momentum each day. The Governor is energized by the continuing momentum of support he's seen throughout Nevada to his solid ideas for economic recovery this week and he looks forward to speaking with voters in northern Nevada. He is the only candidate in this race who is an experienced, lifetime leader and it shows," Bath said.
