A 29-year-old Gardnerville woman with multiple probation violations was dropped Monday from a diversion program and sentenced to 42 months in Nevada State Prison for felony drunk driving.
"I'm sorry to see you back here," District Judge Michael Gibbons told Cassandra McElvain.
"You still have serious drug and alcohol problems. You're one of these people who can't have a single drink. You'll kill yourself or somebody else."
McElvain must serve 12 months before she is eligible for parole. She has credit for 130 days in custody.
Once she is released and has a driver's license, McElvain must install a device for three years that prevents her from operating a vehicle if she's under the influence.
McElvain thanked Gibbons for the opportunity to participate in the diversion program designed to keep drunk drivers out of prison.
"I apologize. I failed and I blame it on myself," she said.
