Pau-Wa-Lu groups on KOLO

The Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School Choir and Desert Steel Drum Band under the direction of Tammy Owens will be featured in the "John Tyson's Christmas Special," airing 11 p.m. today on KOLO-TV Channel 8.


Christmas dinner

St. Gall Catholic Church hosts the 12th annual Noel Christmas Day dinner at the church, 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. The purpose of the family-style dinner organized by volunteers is to offer companionship for people who might be alone on the holiday. To receive an invitation, call Rita Hill at 783-9908.


New Year's dance gala

Tickets are on sale for the Gardnerville Council of the Knights of Columbus New Year's Eve Dance Gala at the St. Gall Pastoral Center. The event features the 16-piece Sierra Swing Band of Reno. Doors open at 8 p.m. with music at 9 p.m. Table snacks and a no-host bar available. Hors d'oeuvres served at 10 p.m. and champagne at midnight. Volunteer for senior tax help

Training is available to become an AARP tax aide to do tax preparation for low-income taxpayers, with attention to those age 60 and older. Training is the first week in January. Work will be one day a week in February through April. Information, 267-7998.


New library cards

The Douglas County Public Library is updating library cards to promote the upcoming One Book Douglas community read program. Library cards will be updated for those applying for new cards, and current card holders may upgrade to one of the new designs for free through April 15, 2011. The new cards include a wallet-sized card, key chain card, and bookmark, and is on display at the library check-out counter. The Douglas County Public Library is at 1625 Library Lane in Minden.
