Art show at Copeland

The Abstractly Speaking art show featuring photos and paintings by Gardnerville resident Pam Brekas runs through Jan. 30 at the Copeland Cultural Arts Center, 1572 Highway 395 in Minden, open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Concert series continues

The Carson Valley Arts Council's fourth annual concert series continues with the Fishtank Ensemble, 7 p.m. Jan. 22, at the CVIC Hall, 1602 Esmeralda Ave., in Minden. Ballroom in Genoa

Registration is Sunday and Jan. 17 for ballroom dance classes for adults and teens in the Genoa Town Hall. The 22-week course begins 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday. CARSON CITY

'Sound of Music' auditions

The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Co. hosts auditions for "The Sound of Music," 6 p.m. Wednesday, in Sarah Winnemucca Hall at Western Nevada College Carson City campus. There are 17 roles to be cast, including children and ensemble. Auditioners should come prepared to sing a one-minute song with accompaniment. Rehearsals begin in February. Performances are two weekends at the Carson City Community Center on May 7-16.

Everyone accepted must register to participate in the productions. Credit students receive scholarships to defray half their tuition. Children need to register non-credit. This course applies to the associate of arts degree with an emphasis in musical theater.

'Wild Oats' presented by Carson Performing Arts

Carson Performing Arts at Carson High School presents James McLures "Wild Oats," beginning Jan. 15. The western follows a traveling actor and his long-lost brother in a comedy of villains, Shakespearean quotations and a heroine threatened by a runaway train. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Jan. 15, Jan. 16 and Jan. 23, and 2 p.m. Jan. 24. Tickets are $5 for children and CHS students, $7 for students and seniors, $8 general admission.
