The R-C Morning Report

It looks like we have the first race of the election season, should both Nancy McDermid and Lawrence Howell end up filing for the District 4 Commission seat in March. I will say Howell will have his work cut out for him, since it has been surprisingly difficult to defeat a sitting commissioner lately.

Back when the election filing period started on Jan. 1 and lasted into the spring, we would make people file before we talked to them about running for office. I realize that hasn't been true for a long time, but I don't think shortening the filing period has actually helped that much.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a string of wet storms will ride the jet stream into Western Nevada next week starting Sunday. The storms will begin warm and cool off bringing snow levels down to 4,500 feet by Tuesday. Several feet of snow is possible in the Sierra, with some accumulations in the Valley floor by the middle of the week. The winds will be punching these things through pretty quickly, so there's no telling how much moisture will fall on our side of the hill.

Today's weather will be partly sunny with a high of 51 degrees and a calm wind. As of 6:30 a.m. there's nothing on the NHP Web site on our part of the state. The predawn temperature is 25 degrees in Genoa, and 26 degrees in Minden.
