Take down the signs

EDITOR:

I believe that some comment may be in order regarding the visual pollution of our beautiful area by campaign signs posted by Mr. Ted Thran. I called him today about it, and his only response was that "the law allows it."

Regardless of the law allows it, I think it is very objectionable to have to see campaign signs all summer. Yes, I voted for the candidate in the primary and think he has the inside track for November. But do the signs have to be an ever-present eyesore over the county for five months? The signs could be re-posted in October, if he feels it necessary, still in plenty of time before the general election.

We will see if my direct suggestions have any result, but I would encourage readers to take note, and perhaps poll others around you as to whether there is objection to the signs. My view is that, as we have summertime visitors and are attempting to display the beauty of the area, the campaign signs are visually polluting and detracting. The "law allows it" isn't the only consideration, and Mr. Thran needs to be conscious of the other factors of the environment he's affecting, as well as the sensibilities of his hoped-for constituents.
